Our specializations include year round treatment, primarily on Bermuda and Zoysia lawns, including fertilization, pre-emergent weed control and lime applications. Most of the fertilizers we use are slow release fertilizers with micro-nutrients. The slow release fertilizers allow the nutrients to penetrate the ground to feed the plant over an extended period of time. Pre-emergents are necessary to prevent weed seeds from germinating in the grass and causing competition.
A weed is defined as “a plant in the wrong place”. Weeds will occur in the grass all year round, so it is always important to use pre-emergent. This process covers many weeds such as clover, crabgrass, dallisgrass, henbit, onions, lespedeza, etc.
Our services also include identifiying insect and disease problems within the lawn, making recommendations, and applying treatments to correct the problems. Typically, if you have grass, you have insects. Some insects are beneficial, some are not. The non-beneficial insects include white grub, spittle bugs, mites, army worms, leaf hoppers, etc. Diseases and fungus are also very common in grass. Some include brown patch, dollar spot, pythium, melting out, etc.
The key to having a healthy lawn is consistency – consistent treatments of fertilizer, pre-emergents, weed control, weekly mowing, weekly watering. Having sufficient, direct sunlight also contributes to the health of the lawn (typically 6-8 hours per day).
